Description:

Attention: Perception, Control and Free Will

Selective attention involves powerful neural mechanisms for the control of information processing in the brain. This lecture will describe neural mechanisms of top-down voluntary attention, including the role of free will in attentional control. A model of the specificity of attentional control in influencing perceptual processes will be described. How control processes influence perceptual processing in visual cortex will also be discussed. Findings from human EEG and neuroimaging studies, and cellular neurophysiology, will be described, with the goal of understanding how our behavioral goals affect our perception and momentary awareness.”
